David Berman's Trip Report

June 5, 2000 - June 16, 2000

This report covers Tuesday, June 13, 2000, Day 9 of our Las Vegas/Henderson trip.

This should easily be the quickest daily read of them all.

We had to stay around for some furniture deliveries which came in due course. First there was the La-Z-Boy sofa bed Roz chose for the guest bedroom. It is a full-size sofa with a queen mattress, and the two delivery guys, after inspecting the room where it would go, told us they could not get it into the room.

As we looked on with disappointment, the delivery men started to drive away, but then the truck stopped and they walked back to tell us they wanted to try getting the sofa bed into the room. They removed the feet from the couch, then removed the door to the bedroom, and these two steps made it possible to get the item into the room. We now have a lovely sofa bed in the guest bedroom, and the delivery men left with a nice tip from two appreciative customers.

Next up was Dennis Irwin, the owner of Rainbow Landscaping, who we are joining with next-door neighbors David and Lea in hiring to do our lots. This will allow us to coordinate our landscaping so that we can have a compatible look for our adjoining yards. Dennis quoted us an attractive price for a package that goes beyond the proposal made by Del Webb's own landscaping department. We made an appointment to meet Dennis at a local nursery the next day to make choices for plants and trees.

Walker Furniture came later in the day to deliver a loveseat and painting we had purchased on Saturday, which almost completes the furnishing of our bedroom.

A late lunch at KFC. Let's see ….this duo of gourmet diners has hit almost all of the Valley's fine eating establishments on this trip: Taco Bell, KFC, McDonald's. You name it.

Next up was a trip over to the Belz discount outlet, where we bought some nice towels and linens for our guest-bedroom wing.

Final observation: There are a number of people driving the spiffy little Chrysler PT Cruiser around town, and they get a lot of attention when they are spotted. The coolest sight of all is seeing them in service as black-and-white taxis operated by Union Cab Company.

End of Day 9.
