I booked pre-paid through
expedia and used the Landry's card for VIP check-in ...which was CLOSED when I checked in (2 a.m.) Used the Gold Tower desk.
Landry's card scored me an "unmoveable" upgrade for 4 nights. We got the Gold Tower, "Vegas Baby Suite" on the 6th floor. I wanted the Rush Tower with 2 queen beds, but they didn't have any. I asked for a Rush Tower king but that wasn't available either. I ended up in the Gold Tower with a King but it was a mini suite so it was okay.
The View: Window view was of the 4Queens, Fremont & the top of the FSE Canopy but if you looked down you got a view of the Golden Nugget's roof. You could DEFINITELY hear the FSE crowd and music in the room. I did ask for a south view but that was not available.
The room: Nice Size. Seperate Living and bedroom. Hospitality type bar with sink, fridge and some glassware but NO BARSTOOLS.?? Having 2 bathrooms was probably the nicest thing about the room. Bed linens were very nice. Bed had a feathertop, feather pillows, triple sheeting and a feather duvet.
The door handle of the 2nd bathroom broke off the first time I closed the door! I left a note for housekeeping and it was fixed when we came back to the room. There was a wad of the previous guest's hair stuck to the marble wall of the bathtub . THAT WAS GROSS. Housekeeping left it up there our entire stay. Just...wrong!
For those people who don't like to use
credit or those who have small bankrolls... Plan on budgeting an extra $100 per night of your stay on your CREDIT CARD. I think if you use a debit card it's $130 per night for incidentals. They don't actually CHARGE the card but it is held from your available balance and they are supposed to remove the pending charge at check out.
I prepaid for my room and asked for incidentals to be turned off, but was denied. They dinged my card for 400 bucks . The "pending" charge is still showing on my online credit card statement. The available balance still reflects minus $400 because they did not close the account out properly at check-out.
Not a big deal but it is ANNOYING. Hope that info helps someone.
Overall impression of the Nugget...Nice. Will I stay there again? Not for my whole stay, but I would definitely book a cheap room there to just use the pool and I would actually sleep somewhere else.
I don't care for the layout. Something seems a bit "off about the layout of the roulette and craps tables and I didn't gamble much at the tables because of that. I just wasn't "feeling it". They had a fairly good selection of the newer slot games. Usually in banks of 4 but there seemed to always be people waiting for your seat at Reel Em In, Sex In The City and Wizard Of Oz.
2 timeshare people were stationed at the main GN entrances. Very annoying.
I wish I'd been able to use the pool but there were wind gusts of 60+ mph and it was in the 50's until the day I checked out.
I never got a chance to use my $25 Landry's credit or my free slot play. My players card gave me a comm. error message when I tried it so I just said forget it. I'm sure I could have went up to the players club desk and they would have fixed it but it was crowded and it wasn't a big deal to me.
EDIT TO ADD:
oversized deep soaking bathtubs with Raintree Showers Plenty of hot water here, but water pressure is POOR. The "deep" oversized tubs are deep, but SHORT and they are
RIDICULOUSLY hard to get in and out of. Please be careful especially when getting out because that marble floor gets slick.
